A FOODIE’S GUIDE TO FANTASTIC FLAVORS IN RIO

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was a trip to remember. If you are debating on when to visit, the month of November was PERFECT for travelling to the second largest city in Brazil, as it is the end of the country’s Spring season and beginning of Summer. We found the crowds to be ideal this time of the year, and as foodie’s who love to explore we were able to move throughout the city with ease.

While planning your trip to Brazil, it is a must to also plan what foods, drinks, snacks, and desserts you are going to seek out. Brazil has a ton of great food to offer, and you don’t want to miss out. This article will cover some of the best sips and eats that you MUST try when visiting Rio.

BRAZIL’S NATIONAL COCKTAIL

Every chance we could get, there was always a Caipirinha in our hand in Rio – well-known as Brazil’s national cocktail. It was delicious and refreshing, you couldn’t get enough of them on the beach or in the city. We tried them at different restaurants and by purchasing them through street vendors, all were equally amazing!

BRAZILIAN BEVERAGES

Aside from the Caipirinha, we tried a few other beverages in Brazil which we thoroughly enjoyed.

If you are looking for another refreshing alternative beverage, try a Brazilian beer. The Brahma is a light and refreshing option that can go down smoothly with any meal.

Additionally, Brazilian coffee is a great option if you like a strong aroma…so make sure you don’t skip on that for breakfast at your hotel and at surrounding local coffee shops.

BRAZILIAN FOOD IS A MUST

We LOVED the food in Brazil. My favorite was the Picanha, a cut of beef that is popular in not only Brazil but throughout Latin America. Brazilian steakhouses are spread out throughout Rio, and you cannot leave the country without the mouthwatering experience of freshly cut steaks at your table.

Another must try are the grilled shrimp skewers on Copacabana Beach. Vendors are surely to make their way to you on the beach, and you do not want to let these shrimp skewers pass you by. They are fresh and seasoned to perfection, and will keep you wanting more.

The seafood in Brazil is exceptional. The fried fish, shrimp empanadas, and tuna tostadas…all out of this world.

I also could not get enough of the Pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) …can we say addictive!

A ONE-OF-A-KIND GEM

My favorite stop in Rio was Marius Degustare for dinner. This restaurant was absolutely beautiful on the inside. Little did we know that it is actually listed in the famous book 1,000 Places to See Before You Die by Patricia Schultz.

Not only is the décor unique and memorizing, but the food is out of this world. It is one of the most popular Brazilian steakhouses in Rio, and comes with a large buffet spread which also features authentic Brazilian dishes. The servers come around with various cuts of steak as well as seafood. I was left speechless with the both the food and decor!

All in all, Rio was a blast! It was a time that we will never forget sightseeing and filling up our bellies with deliciousness.
