UNIQUE PERUVIAN EXPERIENCES: A FOODIE’S PARADISE IN SOUTH AMERICA

Peru has become well-known as a foodie’s paradise in South America, providing unique taste and flavor that is unmatched. We couldn’t agree more!

Our travel experience in Peru was absolutely amazing and worth every bite. Check out some of our favorite eats in Lima, Cusco, and more.

TANTALIZING EATS IN LIMA

Lima is the capital of Peru and WOW’ed us with its tantalizing eats. It was our first foodie stop when we first arrived in the country.

Museo Larco’s restaurant KUNA, located in the district of Pueblo Libre in Lima, is where I first discovered my love for a Peruvian dish called Causa. It is a must try, along with a Pisco Sour – Peru’s National cocktail.

Exploring the street markets and street food in Lima is also a must when you are visiting the city.

Here you will discover all the different types of exotic fruits and get a sampling of what the local love to eat.

Ceviche, a local favorite, is another dish that is a part of traditional Peruvian cuisine.

You should give the purple corn drink a try, very sweet but fresh. There are also different rice dishes, soups, and the famous papas rellenas to indulge your taste buds.

The local fish market in Chorillos is also a favorite spot for foodies to visit when in Lima.

Here you can taste some of the best fried fish sandwiches, freshly caught from the sea.

As you stroll around, you will see the many vendors selling Peruvian snacks such as plantain chips.

Peru has some of THE BEST people in hospitality, and one of the most impressive individuals we met during our travels in Lima was Augusto at Popular de aqui y de alla for dinner.

Augusto went above and beyond recommending the best dishes for our last Peruvian dinner in Lima.

My favorite dish was the ceviche with the sweet potato…DELICIOUS!

DELICIOUS EATS IN AGUAS CALIENTES

Lima was not the only city in Peru where the food was amazing. We also tasted some fantastic eats in Cusco, as well as in route to Macchu Picchu, Lake Humantay, and Rainbow Mountain.

Aguas Calientes, a town we stopped in on our way to Macchu Picchu, had a fantastic restaurant called Chullos where we ate the best quinoa crusted trout. The different sauces and spice levels were ON POINT as well if you love spicy.

We also tried the coffee and pastries at one of the local coffee shops in Aguas Calientes, which brought our day to an awesome start before our hike up to Macchu Picchu.

If you have a chance to get the snack box on the train to Macchu Picchu, grab one because you will love the quinoa bar and other snacks included.

They sure do love quinoa in Peru!

FOR FOODIES IN CUSCO AND SURROUNDING AREAS

We discovered a great sushi spot in Cusco called Limo. If you are in the mood for a little Asian influence, this is the place you want to check out wile in town.

The sushi hit the spot after a long day of travel and exploring Cusco. You can’t go wrong with any of their appetizers as well.

Lake Humantay and Rainbow Mountain were amazing hikes, and my favorite part was sipping some tea when we reached the summit of each mountain.

We also stopped in local spots to try freshly made pisco, and of course, more of my favorite for lunch – Causa!

Peru is an amazing country to visit, and it is a MUST TRIP for any foodie who loves to explore what the world has to offer. We loved every second of our experience, and maybe one day we can go back to explore more of this beautiful country.
